16.04.24: aciēs triplex

As you read more in Latin, you will learn about the wars and battles waged by the Romans. One word that often occurs is aciēs, -ēī [5/f] (battle-line) and so we will pause for a moment to look at a typical arrangement of battle-lines in the Roman army: aciēs triplex. This was a military formation consisting of battle lines arranged in three ranks and in a checkered formation known as a quīncunx.
